September Birchbox

So I received my Birchbox in the mail 2 days ago. For the September box, they are celebrating their birthday, and I have typically LOVED these boxes. The last two years, there has been an amazing extra as a thank you for being a loyal subscriber. Cue back to the amaze balls BaubleBar bracelet, or the key ring that holds my bobby pins! I got it and I wasn’t overwhelmed, but I wasn’t underwhelmed either. Can you ever just be whelmed?

What’s in the box?

Ruffian Nail Lacquer in Fox Hunt
Yes To Blueberries Face Wipes
Amika Blow Up spray
Yes to Grapefruit CC Cream
Raccine Ultimate Youth Power Eye Serum

Personally I was expecting something phenomenal for their birthday, with an extra something something. Their website hyped it so much that I was a smidge let down. But when looking at my products, they are all great sizes, exactly what I expect from my Birchbox. Nothing was a repeat, yay! And everything was an item I will use. Overall I would rate this box an 8/10. I am so excited to use the nail lacquer, and I’ve already used the eye serum, blow up spray, and face wipes. I would say good job Birchbox! I have been dangerously close to canceling, but this brought me right back in. Fingers crossed they can keep it up!

Crazy enough? One of my fav parts:

Mani Monday

Happy Monday everyone! I was happily greeted with some fabulous cool weather and rain today! The change could not be more welcome. I was also excited to bust out my fall nail polish colors, mostly because dark beautiful red colors are my favorite. I spent my whole day working on schoolwork, so I am incredibly grateful for a date night tonight. Have a great week everyone!

Signs of September

Happy September everyone! I can’t believe it is finally here! This marks the beginning of my favorite months. From here until Christmas, everything seems to delight and entice, making for tons of fun! Fall has always been my favorite season, so I am excited for it to get started. It is still well in the 90s here, but that won’t stop me from celebrating what I am most excited for!

This mamajama hitting my desk. I’m only halfway through, but man is it great. I am savoring every page of it.

The return of the heat tools. No more carefree summer locks. Now that its fashion month, it’s time to tame the mane and get to serious business.

Cool Denver mornings and evenings, that rapidly turn in to hot hot hot days. Forces me to get creative with my wardrobe.

20130903-093840.jpg

The steady transition of bright summer colors to cooler colors, and thicker layers. I love the way my fashion rack really emulates the changes in seasons.

Fabulous boots on Shoemint. These bad boys will soon be mine, been saving for a while 🙂

I used these inexpensive boxed dyes to do a reverse ombré on my hair. I love the results, but want to go darker on my whole head now. We will see what happens!

And of course the hallmark way to tell fall is here? Starbucks has their pumpkin spice lattes. I personally am not a fan, but I love what it means! Have a fabulous week friends, and get excited for fall! -T

Mani Monday!

Happy Tuesday everyone! I know yesterday was Monday, and I had a fresh mani, but no Internet! Bummer. But, I had a good one, and I ended it snuggled in bed watching Baggage! Good way to end Monday! I am getting in the swing of things now, with a regular schedule, so expect regular posts again! I am really excited about that prospect! Let’s hope this week is great, we will be sliding in to a 3 day weekend! Thanks goodness.

Back to school!

It’s that time of year again, the smell of sharpened pencils in the air, and school lunch boxes making an appearance once again. The beginning of school is nostalgic for me, even if it does come too quickly. I am about to start my final semester at college tomorrow, and while I am crazy excited, I’m also a little sad. Time flies when you are having fun! So to start my first day off right, I have a few beauty essentials that I use.

20130819-121419.jpg

The first is Nad’s wax strips. I picked these up at Target for around $8 earlier in the summer, and they are great for removing hair. They require more than one pass over an area, but gets rid of hair well. I use them on my underarm area, sometimes on my legs, or eyebrows. Cuts down on the time it takes to get ready, so I can sleep longer!

The next is St. Tropez bronzing mousse. If you’re like me and worked all summer, you might not have the best tan to show off. This is great for the first few months of school to keep you looking like you have vacation kissed skin. Also looks great with that first day of school sun dress!

The last one is Crest 3D white mouth rinse. This helps keep your grin looking fresh, and is especially great if you’re a coffee drinker like I am. You’ll be meeting new people on your first day, so you want your smile to be bright and happy!

Don’t forget to pack some healthy snacks in your backpack I case you get hungry! Kind bars always save the day for me! Happy first day of school! Here’s to a good semester!

Mani Monday!

Happy mani Monday! It has been raining here all evening, so I have been doing laundry, painting my nails, and watching Friends- of course! I have a mini 3 day vacation this week, I could not be more excited! Must get recharged for school!

Last week I let my nails go natural, I felt like they needed a break from polish and remover. So this week I picked one of my classic types of polishes, a beautiful red that screams grown up! Hopefully it sets me up for the week right! Lets have a good one! -T

Girl on a Budget

Ahhhh. Blogging. I assure you I haven’t died or fallen off the face of the planet! I have been enjoying my few last days before the school year starts. Catching up with friends and celebrating 3 birthdays in my family have been highlights of my past week. But here I am back in action! Sharing some of my favorite ways that I indulge in beauty… On a budget!

Say what?! A budget? But none of our favorite bloggers or YouTubers ever talk about budgets! I have found that point to be rather true over the past 4 years of following the beauty community. And I find it slightly frustrating. Gurus and bloggers have large followings, especially of young girls. As a 16 year old, I know I never had enough saved up for high end makeup, or the latest “it” bag. And I never dared to ask my parents for it. So I think it is important to have a budget, be aware of it, and stick to it.

Budgets aren’t always fun. Sometimes they downright suck. But by keeping on budget, I have been able to afford trips, the high end beauty products, and maybe some day a fabulous bag. So how do I stick to a budget and stay fabulous? Glad you asked!

1. Coupons! Yes sir! Every month, Procter and Gamble produces a coupon flier that has tons of fantastic coupons! Keep your eyes peeled! Just recently I scored a buy one, get one free coupon on Herbal Essences shampoo and conditioner. That’s about $4 or $5 at my local target. One time I got a $3 off Covergirl makeup product. Used it on mascara and only paid $3 for my product. Not only can you use them on beauty products, snag the ones you know you will use for other household items. I always clip the laundry detergent ones, or pet food ones. By saving money on those items, I have more that I can allocate for trips or saving for investment pieces.

2. Have a Birchbox subscription? Rate your products! Sure my box is $10 a month, but if you rate everything in your box, you get enough points to pay for half of your box! Save those points up to use on something truly fabulous! This is how I got a roller ball of Oscar de la Renta perfume for no charge. Same with my Embryolisse. By doing this you can have the great products that we all want, but don’t have to shell out a ton of money for them.

3. Patience. Patience is a virtue they say, and when it comes to keeping in budget, it is key. Sometimes it is great to see something you love and snatch it up right away. But rarely does that work well for the budget. By waiting it out, and being patient, it gives you time to eliminate impulse purchases. You can also look for coupons or deals while waiting, saving you even more money. And if you still want it after you have saved for it? Go and get it! No sense wasting time! Being patient is super important, and has helped me to weed out many purchases that would just end up sitting in my beauty drawer.

4. Sign up for in-store membership cards. Almost every store seems to have them, even my Target pharmacy has a rewards program. It doesn’t hurt to sign up for them, sometimes you get introductory offers, or extra points for signing up. By having one at all the stores you shop at, the savings can add up! Just attach your phone number, and you won’t have to carry around all the cards. We still have a land line, so I give out that phone number because then I don’t have them calling my cell phone. By signing up for one email list at a favorite restaurant of ours, I ended up winning a gift certificate that paid for a whole meal the next time we went. You never know! Having an Ulta card, and a Sephora card has scored me many awesome free products, especially for birthdays–so make sure to sign up!

While these ideas may not be anything new, or groundbreaking, they totally help me get the job done. By saving on certain items, I free up my budget for things I think are “fun”. Find what works for you, and strike a balance. But never stop trying to save a little extra money and keep within your budget! It truly is the best friend of any beauty loving maven! Do you have any tips on staying fabulous and on budget? Let me know! -T

July Favorites!

Favorites!

Favorites!

It’s crazy to believe that my summer is slowly winding down, I feel like yesterday it was just the beginning of summer, with many different plans and ideas of things to do. Now that July is over, I am ready for school supplies and fall clothing! Bring on the sweaters! Before those, we must celebrate all the great things of July. Let’s enjoy some favorites…

Currently on Season 2 of Friends!

*TV Show: Friends. An oldie but a goodie, I can never get enough of this show. Sometimes I laugh, sometimes I cry, but it is always good. Brushing up is also helping me get ready for my family’s Friends trivia night. I want to win so bad!

Ugly Beauty by Ruth Brandon

*Book: Ugly Beauty. I found this book at the library when I was looking at Nina Garcia books. I have quickly fallen down the rabbit hole, and am enjoying the melding of two polar opposite lives that without, we would not have the cosmetic industry. It is a great, easy read, I would highly recommend to all the ladies out there!

Beige Medium 2-2.5

Beige Medium 2-2.5

*Makeup: Maybelline Dream Matte Powder, Beige Medium 2-2.5. I have had this powder for ages thanks to the youtube beauty guru missglamorazzi. She would swear by this powder, and for the price point I gave it a whirl. Ages later and it is still one of my favorites. One pan of it lasts for a long time, and it gives a great matte finish. I have been using this as my setting powder all month, and I must say it is giving my MAC skinfinish natural a run for its money!

Aloe fresh!

*Bodycare: Vaseline Spray and Go moisturizer. I borrowed some of this from my mom, and then had to pick up my own! What I love about this is that it hydrates your skin, but dries so quickly you don’t feel greasy! That’s a win in my book. Its great for every day use, but I especially love using this to moisturize my entire body before I apply sunless tanner. While I am sure I could recreate the same idea for cheaper, this just does it so well I am happy shelling out for it!

*Perfume: Daisy by Marc Jacobs. This scent has been a staple for a few years now. I love the clean but floral scent, and a little goes a long way. I have gone through two rollerballs of this scent, and have taken out a chunk of my bottle. Its perfect for summer, light and fresh, but strong enough to linger. Give this one a whirl!

hammocks and toes!

hammocks and toes!

*Activity: laying in the hammock! Oh my goodness this has been so fun! Once the sun slips down a little the hammock has a nice shady spot where I can relax and put my toes up! It beautiful and so peaceful. I am sad that I won’t be able to lounge in it much longer! Must enjoy it while I can!

Here’s hoping that August is just as wonderful as July has been! -T

Mani Monday!

I was feeling bright and cheery while painting my nails, and I knew that soon I will switch from bright summer colors to darker richer fall colors. So I went big! This week I am excited to be enjoying some rainy weather, a welcome change from the heat. Hopefully it will make for lots of coffee and chick flicks in bed! Have a great week! -T

Clinique Super Balance Review

I was at Ulta a little over a month ago, checking out the new Clinique range they are offering. I had the gal try some foundation on me, and walked away with a sample. Cut to one week later, I am in picking up the full sized product! That’s how amazing this stuff is. Allow me to introduce the Clinique SuperBalanced Foundation.

2013-07-25 13.02.34

I use the shade 03 Ivory, which the gal color matched me to. The best thing about my color match? She went a little lighter so that I can blend it out with bronzer for summer, but in winter it will be the perfect shade! I love the thoughtfulness of that idea!  When writing down all the things I love about this foundation, it came out in list form, so I am going to share that list with you!

03 Ivory. For Combination 2,3 Skin.

03 Ivory. For Combination 2,3 Skin.

Reasons Why I am obsessed with Clinique Superbalanced Foundation.

*It has a “your skin but better” look to it. Natural and flawless, but covers a multitude of skin sins.

* “Balances” dry patches with oily spots for ladies with combination skin, which is sometimes hard to work with.

* Gives a medium coverage, so you know it’s working for you, but not weighing you down all day.

* High staying power, this beauty won’t do much moving throughout the day. Low maintenance!

* Nice color range. They offer many options, from three ranges of light, medium and dark.  Under those ranges, you have yellow and pink undertones to choose from, helping to find your best match.

* Can be color-matched by a Clinique specialist, which is different than drugstore brands, where you get to guess for yourself and hope it works out.

* Easy application. A little goes a long way here!

* Holds up in hot temperatures! The summer has allowed me to test this one quite well, and with a setting powder, this guy stays right where you left him!

* Doesn’t clog your pores. A thing this company is famous for, and it holds true. This is the makeup that is great to skin, but also great looking!

There you have it! Many amazing reasons to love this foundation! It comes in at $23 dollars, which isn’t the most expensive high end, but it will set you back a chunk of change. I would say this product is worth it! Check out your local Clinique counter, they are so helpful, and I am sure are willing to give you some free samples! Have you guys every tried their foundations before? Let me know! -T
